The Magicians Nephew

A plot summary may be appropriate as an aspect of a larger topic. Loved getting to see I've gotten so used to always having a new Narnia book to read when I feel in the mood and now I only have one more book to read. Just read the series is all I'm saying, although I haven't even read the series myself so that may be moderately premature on my part. It also says that she becomes less beautiful. Like most of us, Lewis seems to feel a deep need know what is right--to be right. Your journey is my journey too: I understand it intimately.

The Magicians Nephew

It was awesome to read about the origins of Narnia. When Digory touches his yellow ring it transports him to a wood between the worlds where he finds Polly alive and well. Uncle Andrew answers his question by explaining that he is so far aware that the yellow rings work to transport living things to another place, by magic. But surely the calling of Frank the cabby to be king would indicate that it doesn't matter to God. I beefed up the Trinitarian aspects of the edit slightly it never hurts just to make it quite clear what Lewis up to. Although they attempt to escape her, Jadis follows the children back to London. She is a little like Auntie Medusa in The Rescuers, another of Jonathan's favorite films, and she's also a little like the Sea Witch in The Little Mermaid, Madame Mim in The Sword in the Stone, and, of course, the Wicked Witch of the West.

They were such big, bright tears compared with Digory's won that for a moment he felt as if the Lion must really be sorrier about his Mother than he was himself. I'm not really a fantasy fan, but I have always wanted to read the Chronicles of Narnia, especially after watching the movies. Quite nice to experience the backstory this way. Lewis was married to poet. It was different from the other Narnia books. By the end of 'The Magician's Nephew,' Aslan, the lion of another Lewis work, returns Digory, Polly, and Uncle Andrew back home to London. Like Tolkien, he takes the comfortable and familiar and fences it off--a little peaceful island home, safe against an incomprehensible world. The other witches are ugly, and it's plausible to believe that they are motivated by envy of the heroines' effortless youth and beauty. For that reason alone, I recommend fans of the series give it a try.

They act older and far more self-reliant, as opposed to the more child-like Pevensies. Chapters One and Two characterize Digory as the protagonist and hero of the story. It meets its downfall when the advanced society becomes greedy and immoral; the gods, as punishment, send the city to the bottom of the sea. People never act or decide, they are lead along by empty symbols of pure good or pure evil, following one or the other because they are naive. But once we got to the fight in the streets and the chaos that drove the group to empty Narnia, I think we were both pretty excited.
