If you fit this description, the fact that If you are under 40 years of age, I don't think you can relate to this book. McMillan is a master at first-person voice Think Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got her Groove Back, both of which were successful movies. Iíve got close to a month before she turns the big hand on the clock. Just trying to help you relax and not blow a gasket. Now Maureen shouts: ìIím just so outdone! If it is ever put on film, we already know Angela Basset's got dibs on the lead role. Now, a forty-something-year old homemaker whose children have recently left home, she can't quite enjoy her new child-free phase of life. I have to admit that I have experienced quite a few of the symptoms Paulette was sweet enough to bring to my attention.

I'm just an older more experienced member of the team who wants to do her part to make sure we all win. At a time in her life when she has time to explore her own hobbies and artistic endeavors and spend time with her husband, she suddenly finds she has none of what she expected. Itís a miracle to me just how well some of us have managedóthose of us who are the unfortunate beneficiaries of out-of-control husbands. This is a good book y'all. I canít wait to hear your latest bullshit, if thereís anything left to tell. A nurse and a nursemaid. This book reminds me why she's my literary idol! Itís not the kids or Leon, is it? Now, nearly 13 years later, she is back with another definite hit, The Interruption of Everything, which focuses on the trials and tribulations of a middle-aged woman, Marilyn Grimes.

This book was different not exactly the cookie cutter drama. I hang up and press ìcalls receivedî on my cell and get her office. But Bunny has consistently ignored us. But I didnít tell her. Are you still in here? Years ago, Marilyn put her dreams, education and career on hold, dedicating herself to motherhood and marriage. Next came Fraternal Twin Boys 202 Spencer and Simeon, nineteen : straight up and down computer and math nerds like their dad, who makes sure buildings are built properly so they wonít buckle during earthquakes. I mean really frigging crazy! Terry McMillan is a pro at creating characters that are engaging and relatable, and she has done it again in this entertaining and touching book.

Her husband, Leon, a chronic workaholic, is absent all day and most evenings. What I loved most about this book is that Terry McMillan's wry sense of humor came through on so many levels. If you are a childless, career woman of any age, I don't think you can relate to this book. But if you want to read about a real world mature love and the hill and valleys associated with a long term relationship then you have selected the right book. The novel is funny, laced with witty dialogue, great subplots, a few surprises, and unforgettable characters, especially her niece and her mother-in-law, Athurine. A veterinarian's assistant and sometimes the veterinarian. Marilyn Grimes is no different from any other woman in her forties and as we get a peak into the issues of her life, we learn that those of us who are facing the same issues are not alone.

She troubleshoots for her grown kids, cares for her live-in mother-in-law, Arthurine and elderly poodle, Snuffy ; keeps tabs on her girlfriends Paulette and Bunny and her own aging mother and foster sister—all the while holding down a part-time job. Needless to say I enjoyed reading this book. Everything going on in the story seemed very cliche and predictable. But if you want to read about a real world mature love and the hill and valleys associated with a long term relationship then you have selected the right book. But let me finish my thought.

The story line was age appropriate for me. Initially, you meet these characters who you immediately want to dislike. Not due to its reputation but because of its ability to change my outlook on life. Lord knows theyíve made enough floral arrangements to cover ten fake funerals; so many gingerbread houses that some of our Olympian ants stopped trying to penetrate them; and enough of those Little House on the Prairie year-round wreaths that ten years ago were like status symbols on front doors across America but now donít even generate a comment when a stranger rings their bell. How much do husbands really do? She is at the apex of frustration and exhaustion. She feels like she’s about ready to jump.

It was slow going but I took one class per semester, sometimes 2 so as not to compromise my children and husband. Leon planned on doing the renovations himself, but fourteen years later, I stopped holding my breath. I truly believe that the women who were only given fifteen minutes to adjust to their newfound fame as Single Mothers and only used six or seven of them, have been touched by an angel of some kind because how else could any one human being adjust so quickly and handle so much responsibility without a quick stint in the Loony Bin? This is a book that couples experiencing life in their mid-forties should read and learn from. This author knows what she's doing and I was drawn into the character's live Hilarious.
